Measuring your head
The best way to measure your head for your hat size is with the use of a fabric tape or seamstress tape. Have someone measure your head, placing the tape where the hat would normally sit. Make sure the tape is not tight.
Determining your hat size
After you have your measurement consult the chart below. If your measurement falls between two sizes, always go up.
American | Nearest 1/8 inch | Metric | Size Code |
6 5/8 | 20 1/4 | 53 | X-Small |
6 3/4 | 21 1/8 | 54 | Small |
6 7/8 | 21 1/2 | 55 | Small |
7 | 21 7/8 | 56 | Medium |
7 1/8 | 22 1/4 | 57 | Medium |
7 1/4 | 22 5/8 | 58 | Large |
7 3/8 | 23 | 59 | Large |
7 1/2 | 23 1/2 | 60 | X-Large |
7 5/8 | 23 7/8 | 61 | X-Large |
7 3/4 | 24 1/4 | 62 | XX-Large |
7 7/8 | 24 5/8 | 63 | XX-Large |
8 | 25 | 64 |
An example using this process:
Your head measures 22 1/8 inches. You consult the chart and find the next size would be 22 1/4 inches or 7 1/8. The hat can be padded where it is loose to adjust the fit.
