Steampunk at Home

Have you ever wondered what to do with all your Steampunk items when you are not using them, or perhaps you are like me and just wish you could incorporate a little Steampunk or Victoriana in your everyday life.

Here are a few ideas for adding a little Steampunk to your home…

DISPLAY YOUR COLLECTIONS

I love hats. In fact I have a collection. I display my hats both as a better way help them keep their forms and as a reminder of how much I enjoy re-imagining old things.

Even the Professor gets into the act. His inventions sit on display all around our home. There’s nothing better to inspire an inventor than surrounding him with his own innovations.

A PORTAL KEY? WHAT A GREAT CONVERSATION PIECE. THESE ONE OF A KIND ITEMS LOOK COOL ON THE SHELF. A UNIQUE GROUPING SAYS A LOT.

These custom, auto-imagined birds are quite captivating.

I tend to believe there is a re-imagineer in all of us. Why not look around your home for some items to spruce up or re-purpose.

INCORPORATE YOUR PREFERRED AESTHETIC WITH SOME HANDS-ON CREATIVITY

With a few old beads, epoxy, scissors, and some old frames, I took these tired old cameos and re-created two of the most charming ladies I’ve ever seen. Though from an earlier era, they could have been cherished in a Victorian home, I know they will be in mine.

MOST OF ALL – HAVE FUN

Set up little vignettes around the house. I think this arrangement makes a statement- as if to say I’m ready to step out for an afternoon at the shops.

This may be a bit far out there for some, but you have to admit the little ensemble below makes you look twice when you come around the corner.

I like to call this one Waiting for the Omnibus.

REMEMBER NOT TO TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY

It’s fun to switch things up by changing hats or shoes or the likes. In doing so, you alter the personality of the entire display. This is great for special occasions.

From the Author…

The bench in the first picture is just one example of re-purposing, or as we like to say, re-imagining old items into new. If you have ideas on how you enjoy Steampunk At Home, send them to Gadgetometers.

We’d love to share them.
